Gandan Monastery is located in Ulaan Baatar and made in the Tibetan style. More than 150 monks reside in this monastery. There is a high statue of a Buddhist Bodhisattva also known as Avalokitesvara. This monastery was founded by the highest reincarnated lama in the year 1835. Nowadays this monastery has become a special learning centre to master Buddha’s teachings. The monastery’s first temple was made by the efforts of the fifth living Buddha named Chultem- Jigmid Dambijantsan. It displays Mongolian architecture and is built with wood and mud. The roofs are gold plated. Most of the statues of Bodhisattvas have their own importance. A bronze statue of the Lofty Noble impoche Dzanabazar, a Mongolian living Buddha of the first incarnation is there in the temple. This temple also has the teachings of the Buddha in 108 volumes. The main attraction of this monastery is that it is decorated with jewels.
