Galtaji has been a retreat for Hindu ascetics since the early 1500s;[2] its present temple was built by Diwan Rao Kriparam, a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II, in the 18th Century. The main temple is the Temple of Galtaji, built in pink stone. The temple features a number of pavilions with rounded roofs, carved pillars, and painted walls. There is another temple in the complex, the temple of Balaji. Yet another notable temple at Galta is Surya Temple; Surya is dedicated to the Sun God and was built in the 18th century.

Diwan Rao Kriparam, an attendant to Sawai Jai Singh II, in the 18th Century, built the Galtaji Temple. The history of the place date back to 16th century however the precise year of the build is not known but the temples at the place were built in 18th century by Deewan Rao Kriparam, who was in the court of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. The place was famous for religious importance particularly for Vaishnavites Ramanandis, even well before the 18th century when the temples were build and it is believed that Saint Galav spent his life here practising medication and penance.An ancient Hindu pilgrimage site, Galtaji is comprised of pavilions, temples, holy ‘Kunds’ and natural springs. A scenic locale, this holy place is visited by large gatherings both pious and tourists. The Temple of Galtaji is situated in the middle of low-lying hills and is bounded by a beautiful ravine. This temple presents a charming appearance with its pink colour stone.
