Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Bikaner district in the state of Rajasthan. The sanctuary is home to many species of animals and some of them are wild fowls, boars, desert foxes, antelopes, blue bulls, black bucks and a few others. The sanctuary is also home to many varieties of flora. Many species of birds can be found in and around the lake that is present in the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, especially during the winter season which is the period of migration. Another attraction in the place is the Gajner Palace Hotel which is located in the sanctuary itself. The hotel is the only accommodation that is available in the place and was previously the hunting lodge of the royal family of Bikaner. The lodge has exquisite rooms and is a good place to stay. The palace was built in a mix of Mughal and Rajput Architecture. The hotel also arranges safaris for guests and also for those who visiting the place. Safaris are conducted in jeeps that can carry six people. However there are no licensed guides that are located in the sanctuary. One can visit the reserve only through the hotel and private vehicles are not allowed inside the premises of the reserve. Gajner experiences a desert climate since it is located in the midst of the Thar Desert.

The Gajner is situated on the banks of the Gajner Lake. The Palace is built by red sand stone & is indeed a fine example of the great Rajasthani architecture. Spread over 6000 acres, the palace is a 30-minute drive from Bikaner. Gajner Palace -a summer resort of Bikaner Maharajas -has often been described as an incomparable jewel in the Thar Desert’. Built by Maharaja Ganga Singh ji of Bikaner, palace stands on the embankment of a lake. The palace was used by Maharaja for grand shoots and lavish entertainment. Royalty, Indian as well as international, Viceroys and other dignitaries have been entertained at this grand palace.

By Air : The closest airport is located in the city of Jodhpur which is around 189 km from the place. The Jodhpur Airport is connected to places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Udaipur and Jaipur and this is a good option if you are arriving by air. Taxis are available from airports they cost between Rs 7 and 12 per km depending on the type of vehicle availed.

By Train : The closest railway station is located at Bikaner and trains are the most comfortable option. Bikaner railway station is well connected to the cities of Delhi (Bkn Dee S F Exp), Jodhpur(Klk Bme Express), Jaipur (Bkn Jp Intercit), Kalka(Barmer Klk Exp), and Bhatinda (Adi Jat Express).
