Despite mountains, rivers, waterfalls, beaches, oceanic and inland fishing facilities, tourism within Gabon is largely underdeveloped. Located in west-central Africa, the oil and mineral reserves of Gabon along with a small and sizable population has enabled it become a relatively wealthy and prosperous nation. Fortunately, the pristine rainforests and an extremely rich biodiversity within this country have largely remained unspoiled over the years and are only lately being organized. Over eight national parks have now been identified for preservation and an extensive tourist infrastructure is being developed around these sites.
Accessible by several border crossings from the surrounding countries of Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Congo, the capital city of Libreville features an international airport with scheduled flights to/from Paris, Douala, Casablanca, Brazzaville, Addis Ababa, Accra, Johannesburg and Frankfurt. Libreville and Port Gentil also have seaports which make Gabon accessible through the sea routes.
