Detail InformationEdit

In April 1797 the French advanced on Lienz. Village inhabitants feared pillage and plundering, decided not to defend themselves due to the big number of enemies and gave in to their fate.
But baron Wörndle with his Innsbruck team, major von Cazzan and captain Lergetporer decided to oppose their enemies in order to prevent Lienz from being plundered.
On the view of the resistance the enemies withdrew and were willing to negotiate.
The freedom monument of 1907 reminds of this story.
