The “Fotoforum West” was founded in Innsbruck by Rupert Larl in 1989. This gallery, that is run with the support of the Ministry for Science, Research and Art and the provincial authorities, is Tirol´s first photo gallery.
The first room was set up in Hötting; on an area of 80m² are an exhibition room and a workshop room. Co-operations with other galleries were set up for larger exhibitions. That way continuous exhibition activities could be set up in Innsbruck. Publications and exhibitions mostly concern regional photo productions.
In 1993 the rooms of the Galerie Krinzinger became the new home of the Fotoforum. It became more professional and the program more international. Nowadays exhibitions ranging from international exhibitions to regional photography are presented in Fotoforum West.
