The Fort Pike Bridge (also referred to as the Rigolets Bridge) carries U.S. Route ninety across the Rigolets on the jap facet of Lake Pontchartrain between New Orleans and Slidell in LA. The bridge opened on Gregorian calendar month nine, 1930, and together with the cook Menteur Bridge provided a free route between New Orleans and also the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A brand new span was created simply to the north of the previous span.
Construction of a brand new $50 million high-rise bridge began in Gregorian calendar month 2004. It had been delayed by the cyclone Katrina in 2005, that pushed a devastating storm surge through the world. The new bridge is simply over one mile (1.6 km) long and options 2 12-foot (3.7 m) lanes with 8-foot (2.4 m) shoulders on each side. The bridge rises to seventy two feet (22 m) to permit marine traffic to pass while not interruption of bridge traffic. The new span opened to traffic on January fifteen, 2008. Once completion, of the new span, the previous bridge was destroyed.
