Named for a preferred Union general killed within the war, Fort Phil Kearny was established at the forks of the massive and small Piney Creeks by pass. Henry B. Carrington of the eighteenth U.S. Army unit in Gregorian calendar month, 1866. The Mission of this fort and 2 alternative posts on the town Trail–Forts Reno and C.F.
