Fort Macomb could be a nineteenth century fort in Louisiana, on the western shore of cook Menteur Pass. The fort is adjacent to the Venetian Isles community, currently lawfully among town limits of recent Orleans, Louisiana, though some miles distant from town once initial engineered and still a substantial distance from the most developed portion of town. cook Menteur Pass could be a water route from the Gulf of United Mexican States to Lake Pontchartrain and therefore the shore of recent Orleans. (The alternative route is that the Rigolets; each straits connect Pontchartrain to the Gulf via Lake Borgne.) associate degree earlier fort at the location was referred to as Fort cook Menteur. the present brick fort was inbuilt 1822, and renamed Fort Wood in 1827, with its current name being given in 1851. The fort was occupied by a Confederate States of America garrison beginning on twenty eight Jan 1861 early within the yank war, and retaken by the Union the subsequent year.
