Fort Jackson National land site could be a us National land site placed northeast of Columbia, South geographic region. It encompasses 585 acres (237 ha) nonheritable from Fort Jackson, a us Army military training facility, and was dedicated on Gregorian calendar month twenty six, 2008.The Fort Jackson National land site joins 2 existing war cemeteries in South geographic region, Florence National land site and Beaufort National land site.Initial construction began in could, 2008 and created a 15-acre (6.1 ha) burial space with temporary facilities. Stage 1A was completed in Dec, 2008, and also the grounds were opened for burials in January, 2009. On July 9, 2009, the Department of Veterans Affairs declared a $10 million contract to develop stage 1B at the land site, with construction beginning instantly on associate degree entrance, roadways inside the 50-acre (20 ha) section, permanent buildings for administration and maintenance, a public data center and shelters for services throughout inclement weather.
