Detail InformationEdit
It is worthwhile seeing. In 1657 Mikołaj Świrski, a Chełm bishop suffragan, brought Knights Hospitallers to Zamość. He also founded a wooden monastery and a church for them since the order had been set up to take care of the sick. In 1756 – 1773 Jan Jakub Zamoyski founded a brick monastery, according to Jerzy de Kawe’s design. A church dedicated to St. Cross was situated in the south eastern part of the complex. The monastery was famous for a miraculous picture of Our Lady and a well with ‘miraculous’ water that had healing properties. The monastery was closed down in 1784. The present name of the complex ‘Podkarpie’ dates back to the mid 19th century when there used to be an inn called „Pod karpiem”.
