Fonyód, on the southern shore of Lake Balaton is a favorite holiday resort. It lies on and around the double peak of the volcanic hill rising out of the lake. The city has a central location and can be easily accessed by railway, car or by regular bus service.
Fonyód has regular boat service to Badacsony, which is known far and wide for its excellent wines. Close by the lake there is a bicycle lane, so leaving the Port in either direction you can simply cycle around lake Balaton. The Balaton section around Fonyód abounds in free beaches. The city itself has 11 wellgroomed beaches spreaing on a total area of 90 000 meters. Each of them is equipped with all facilities a holidaymaker may need, including food kiosks, boat rental points, giant, slides, playing grounds, basketball and beach football grounds. The water is shallow and safe even for small children, but in some beaches the shallow shores suddenly become deep water so as to satisfy ardent swimmers too.
