The Folklore Museum has a remarkable collection of folk culture. The museum has 6500 folk art and folklore articles on display and the museum is celebrated as one of the largest of its kind in Asia. The Folklore museum has one of the most important ethnographic collections of South Indian toys, puppets and household objects. The exhibits include an excellent collection of carved wooden figures from the different villages of Karnataka, rural costumes, utensils, ornaments, metal artifacts, implements and tools used in different rural professions. The museum also houses models of temples, houses decorative masks, and ceremonial headwear and has a section that displays leather shadow puppets. The museum is famous for the two wooden chariots that it has as part of its collection. The museum is close to the Kukkarahalli Lake that is part of the University campus.

Taxi : Mysore is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Mysore by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

Bus : There is an excellent bus service provided by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Vanities of tourist buses are available from Bangalore to Mysore and fare is about Rs 4 to 5 per km.

Train : Mysore railway station is connected to Bangalore, which is 140 km away. Bangalore is well connected to all the other cities in India. Direct trains are also available from Mumbai (Ajmer Ex), Delhi (Swarna Jayanti Ex), Kolkata (Howrah-Mysore Ex) and many other cities from all parts of the country. Air : Mysore has a small domestic airport which is connected only to Bangalore. Bangalore is also the nearest international airport which is at a distance of 140 km away from Mysore. There are regular flights to Bangalore from all the major cities in India. Bangalore is connected to many international cities as well. Others : Tongas are horse driven carts that are also means of transport in Mysore. They will take you around the city but at slow and steady pace. If you want a close look at the city and catch some rare sights that you would not otherwise see then you could try this mode of transport.
