Ethnological Museum is a museum that preserves the past, but also grows and develops in line with the growth and development of the country, and is therefore documenting the present for future generations to look back and reflect on. The Ethnological Museum is one of the most specialized museums in Bangladesh and is a symbol of unity and progress. It is here where all the tribes of Bangladesh, past and present come together, to educate the public and promote understanding and tolerance of each other.

HistoryEdit

Ethnological Museum was established in 1965 and the museum opened to the public in 1974. Two rooms were added to the museum during 1985-1995. In 1996, a gallery with folk articles of Bengali-speaking people was added.

Taxi : There are various taxis and smaller ‘Baby’ or ‘CNG’ taxis are available to reach the site.

Bus : There are 2 stands within the town wherever the foremost private companies operate the buses and have offices simply to the south of GEC Circle on CDA Ave, and on Station Rd close to building Golden hotel. Greenline, Silkline and Shohag are the nicest and have frequent services to Dhaka (6 hours) and Cox’s Bazar (3 hours). Greenline conjointly offers the only direct bus to Sylhet (Tk 550, 6 hours).
Local buses to Cox’s Bazar (Tk 140, 3 hours) run often throughout the day from Cinema Palace depot, regarding 1km north of the Station Rd area.

Train : Trains run to Dhaka, Sylhet and alternative cities. the most route out of city runs north to Comilla and Akhaura, from wherever the routes to Dhaka and Sylhet diverge. The railway station is on Station Road simply west of anniversary Rd. city may be a terminal station on the metre gauge eastern section of the Bangladesh Railway. The headquarters of this railway are situated here. Train journeys are, in general, cheaper than bus journeys.

Air : Shah Amanat International Airport (ICAO: CGP) is serves as Chittagong’s international airport situated at Potenga Road,South Patenga, Chittagong, besides domestic services to and from Dhaka. It is the 2nd busiest airport in Bangladesh. It has international services to locstions such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kolkata, Sharjah, Muscat, Jeddah and Kuwait. After reaching at airport taxies and rickshaws are available to reach the destination.

Others : By Boat : BIWTC launches its ferries from Sadarghat, about 1 km south of the train station down Sadarghat Rd. Barisal is the main destination, from where you can continue to Dhaka.
Cycle-rickshaws : Cycle-rickshaws are available here and cost around Tk 12-15 per kilometer.
