Detail InformationEdit
The Ethnographic Museum was opened in 1974 in the former castle of the Batthyány family – today it is owned by the village of Kittsee. The museum presents folk culture and art from the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe. The collection provides visitors with an overview on pottery, jewelry, textiles and toys. Special exhibitions on folklore topics are held annually (2000: family photography).
The 17th century castle was refurbished in Baroque style from 1730 to 1740 and extended by the turn of the century. The spacious premises accommodate international workshops, photography and arts exhibitions, concerts, readings, lectures and symposiums.
