In Gregorian calendar month 1972, the arena was opened to the general public and originally called was called “Coloso del Choyal” or the Choyal Colossus. Once 1st engineered, the arena had a capability of ten,000 baseball fans. Currently, the arena holds sixteen,000 spectators.
In 1976, the arena was formally renamed for Héctor Espino, a celebrated Mexican ballplayer. Espino’s career spanned twenty four seasons, from 1960 to 1984.
