Espita is a town in Espita Municipality, Yucatan (Mexico) located on the Litoral Oriente (East Coast) or Region I of Yucatan. It has an average height of 27 meters and is located at a distance of 162 km from state capital city, the Merida City, 45 km from Chichen Itza, 21 km from Ek’ Balam and 22 km from TizimÃn.
During pre-Hispanic times, the site where today stands the village belonged to the province of the cupules. On arrival of the Spanish established the encomienda system in the town during 1549. Since colonization, multiple buildings were built, among which the church dedicated to Saint Joseph, and now remain standing through the maintenance given by the municipal authorities.
