Naturally blessed with a variety of opportunities which include highlands, lowlands, sub-tropical escarpments, and an exquisite coastline along with numerous islands, Eritrea, sooner than later is fast developing into an attractive tourist destination by the Red Sea. Located along the Red Sea within the Horn of Africa, Eritrea features a varied and contrasting landscape which is virtually bisected by the Great Rift Valley formations. After declaring independence from Ethiopia in 1993, this relatively small country of Eritrea largely based on agricultural subsistence has tried to consolidate a tourism industry in order to improve the economy.
Served by the Asmara International Airport, visitors can also enter Eritrea by road from Sudan. The Massawa and Assab sea ports also allow tourists with permission, especially if you would like to arrive in Eritrea using private cruise boats. In the absence of an official language, Arabic, Italian and Tigrinya are widely used and understood in Eritrea.
