Although small, Equatorial Guinea has eventually emerged as one of the largest oil producing country within the sub-Saharan regions of West Central Africa. This former Spanish colony is comprising of the mainland Rio Muni territory and other small off shore islands including Corisco, Elobey Chico, Elobey Grande, and the insular regions of Bioko and Annobon islands. Featuring a tropical climate which exhibits distinct wet and dry seasons, the Rio Muni mainland is however much more drier than the islands.
Equatorial mainland is predominantly occupied by the pygmy populations, while ethnic groups like Fang and Bubi occupy the five islands. With French and Portuguese serving as the official languages of Equatorial Guinea, English is nevertheless spoken by a small number of people residing in Malabo and other parts of the Bioko Island. Equatorial Guinea also has a sizable number of good beaches to lure visitors, which is however, unfortunately an expensive idea.
