The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist, urban center, is that the third oldest church within the Episcopal bishopric of American state. Supported throughout the Gold Rush era in 1857, the church is presently placed within the Mission District of urban center. Within the Eighties, the church’s third clergyman was concerned in beginning the Mission District’s St. Luke’s Hospital, at the time the sole San-Francisco sickbay to treat Chinese staff. Within the Eighteen Nineties, the church erected an impressive granite neo-Byzantine basilica, that was dynamited in 1906 to make a fireplacebrake throughout the good urban center earthquake and fire. The present building dates to 1909 and is within the style of architecture called “Tudor lamp.”
