Dungarpur is a city that is located in the Dungarpur district in the state of Rajasthan. It is an old city that was founded in the 12th century and there are many interesting places that one can visit in the area. One can witness many fairs and festivals while travelling to the place and some of the well known festivals are Vagad Festival, Banheshwar Fair, Bhedmata Fair, Amit Egyaras, Vithaldeo Fair and many others. These fairs are a good way to experience the local culture and customs of the place. Purnima Garba is a famous festival that takes place in the city and many people from the nearby regions can be seen here during this time. There are a few palaces and havelis that are located in the city as well and these are also good places to visit. Some of them are the Udai Bilas Palace, Old Palace or Juna Mahal and a few others. The Juna Mahal is a multi storey building that is built in a unique style. However it is in a dilapidated state now. Other places that can be visited in and around the town are Gap Sagar Lake, Beneshwar Dham, Srinathji Temple, Government Museum of Archeology, Rokadia Ganesh Temple and a few other places.

Dungarpur is a city in the southernmost part of Rajasthan state of India. It is the administrative headquarters of Dungarpur District. The rail line between Udaipur and Himatnagar in Gujarat runs through the town, shortest distance to the National Highway 8 from Dungapur town is 20 km.Historical heritage of Dungarpur is very rich. Much research needs to be done to establish and confirm ancient history of Dungarpur. The history of Dungarpur is well documented after the arrival of Parmars of Malwa in this region.Dungarpur, situated in the foothills of the Aravalli hills is a naturally beautiful city. Dungarpur is not only naturally beautiful, but also boasts marvelous historical architecture.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Udaipur which is around 110 km from the city of Dungarpur. The airport is connected to places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderbad, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ahmadabad. The Udaipur Airport is the closest option and if you are arriving by air, then you can opt for a taxi to the city of Dungarpur. Taxis can be booked from stands that are located outside and they charge around Rs 1300 for the trip.
By Train : The closest railway station is located in Ratlam, which is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The station is well connected to many of the important cities in the country and this is an easy and affordable option. Trains have second class and A/C compartments as well. Some trains have first class compartments also. Ticket prices vary according to the place of boarding.
By Bus : Government buses are available from the city of Udaipur and they cost around Rs 100 and the drive time is approximately two hours. Buses can be boarded from the main bus terminus.

Baneshwar Fair ; Venue: Dungarpur ; Period : N.A ; Details: The name ‘Baneshwar’ is derived from the revered Shivlinga, which is kept in the Mahadev Temple in Dungarpur. “Baneshwar means the ‘Master of the Delta’ in the local Vagdi language and this name was given to the Shivlinga. The Baneshwar fair is held at a small delta formed by the river Som and Mahi, from Magh Shukla Ekadashi to Magh Shukla Purnima. Baneshwar fair in its present form is actually one of two fairs: one which used to be held in of Baneshwar Mahadev (Lord Shiva) and another fair, which started after the construction of the Vishnu Temple by Jankunwari, daughter-in-law of Mavji, a highly revered saint considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Holi ; Venue: Dungarpur ; Period : March ; Details: Holi is an important festival, different from its Hindu’s namesake. It is dedicated to Jogan Mata, mother of the Universe and special male dancers called Gosais. On this occasion tribals perform the Gair dances in a big way. Different groups of tribals wearing colourful dresses, holding swords, arrows and sticks perform this dance at different places.
Bar-Bij Fair ; Venue: Dungarpur ; Period : Nov – Des ; Details: Held one month after Diwali on the occasion of bar-Bij, this is one of the most important celebrations of the district. The Bhils in their traditional costumes sing and dance. Akshaya, Tritiya and Chaitra Krishna are the main festivals of the farmers.
