Plenty of isles were created in this area by the Danube bursting into several branches. Villages were built on bigger isles. Such settlements are Cikolasziget, Doborgazsziget and Sérfenyősziget, names that are first mentioned in records originating in the 18th century.
Dunasziget was created in 1969 by joining of the above mentioned settlements. Forests, meadows, reeds and the plenty of Danube branches provide a home for a number of birds, games, fishes and rare plants. The forests and meadows of the flood-area offer a unique possibility for lovers of cross-country riding. The fish-ladder of Denkpál was constructed during the rehabilitation of the branch system of the flood-area. The slow streaming and exchange of the water with its quick warming ability are perfect for anglers as well as for those escaping from cities to the country and transform Dunasziget into a paradise for bathers preferring natural waters.
