Dr. G.W. Williams school is one among 5 high faculties in Aurora, Ontario and is one among 2 beneath the jurisdiction of the House of York Region District board of education. In 2005, there have been roughly 1350 students from Grades nine to twelve. The varsity started in 1888 as Aurora highschool within the building currently occupied by the Wells Street Public college on Wells Street. This building on Dunning Avenue was opened in 1952. Additions were placed on the Dunning Avenue college in 1956, 1967, and 1998.
In 1961 the varsity was renamed The Dr. G. W. Williams school in honour of Dr. David mineral Wolsley Williams, an area medical doctor and former trustee of the varsity board. The school’s chief rival is Aurora highschool. The varsity is currently being thought of for demolition by the YRDSB and will be remodeled either on this website or on Bayview Avenue by 2010.
