Djougou is an important city, popularly known as the market town and is also a major hub of transportation and communication in Benin. Djougou is by its position a meeting of peoples Yoa, Dendi, Peulh, Pila–Pila, Gourmantche, Somba and Baatonou. The famous market of the town is the sub-region of handicrafts. There are popular tourist destinations in this city which are Le Palais du Roi and Pendjari National Park. Le Palais du Roi is the place of enthronement of kings Djougou and is the same place where all memory Djougou Kingdom are intact. Pendjari National Park is named after the Pendjari River, is situated in far north-west of Benin. It is famous for its wildlife such as hippos, antelopes, lions, elephants, monkeys, and a vast array of birds.
