Dispur is located in the state of Assam and it is the capital of the state. The place is located on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati. However the place still remains in the shadow of its big neighbor, Guwahati. The ancient site of Jatia is located near the town and this is worth visiting while travelling to the town of Dispur. One can also travel to Guwahati during the stay and there are many interesting places to see here. The Basistha Ashram is located near the town of Dispur and this is also a good place to visit. Near the ashram one can see a waterfall and there is a trekking trail that is located here as well. There is a temple that is located here and is worth visiting. A cultural museum called the Shankardev Kalakshetra is situated nearby and this houses an art gallery as well. One can witness cultural programs and traditional Assamese programs in the museum at various parts of the year.

Dispur is the capital of the state of Assam, in northeast India. Dispur is a locality of Guwahati, took its place as the capital of Assam in 1973. This was after Shillong, the erstwhile capital, became the capital of the state of Meghalaya that was carved out of Assam.Visitors can get a feel of traditional Assamese culture in the museum and literally soak in the local culture. The Garbhanga Reserve is located near the town and it is home to many elephants and this is also worth visiting. The climate of Dispur is similar to the climatic conditions in the city of Guwahati. The pleasant conditions here attract people throughout the year. Conditions are tough only during the peak summer season. Summers are warm and it is possible to visit the place during this time. The place gets good amount of rainfall during the monsoon season. Winters are dry and cool and temperatures drop after sunset.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Guwahati and it is situated around 18 kilometers from the city of Dispur. The airport is connected to places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Bangkok. It is connected to some of the smaller airports in the country such as Tezpur, Shillong, Itanagar, Tawang and Agartala as well. Taxis can be hired from the airport and they cost around Rs 300 to Dispur.
By Train : The closest railway station is located at Guwahati and it is well connected to places such as Delhi, Bangalore, Dimapur, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Bhopal. Trains are an ideal mode of transport as they are frequent and comfortable. Tickets rates for three tier A/C berths from Delhi to Guwahati are Rs 1,400.
By Bus : State government buses are available from Guwahati to Dispur. These are used extensively by the locals and they depart at various points through the day. Tickets are cheap and they cost around Rs 50 for the short trip.
