Dharmapuri is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, which lies in the southern part of India. The town is mainly famous for its adjoining locations and the serene scenery of the place, as the town lies quite near the neighboring state of Karnataka. Dharmapuri is mainly famous for its many tourist destinations and it is frequented by tourists from both Chennai and Bangalore as Dharmapuri lies almost in between both these cities. There are many places of general interest in Dharmapuri, and some of these are its many waterfalls. The Hogenakkal falls, controversially popular because of the dispute between the states over its ownership, is located around forty six kilometers (46 km) from Dharmapuri. This is an ideal spot where you can lie back and relax, and let the calm waters of the waterfall soothe your senses. You can also visit Theerthamalai, a small hill on top of which an age old temple, called the Shri Theerthagirishwarar temple, is located. This temple, dedicated to the deity Lord Shiva, attracts a lot of pilgrims and tourists during the time of Maha Shivrathri. The Kottai Kovil, a very old temple that has rare paintings and even sculptures from the ancient times, is also located in the town of Dharmapuri.

Dharmapuri District is a district in Tamil Nadu state in southern India. Dharmapuri district’s main tourist attraction is Hogenakkal Water Falls. Other attractions are Theerthamalai Temple, Mookanurmalai Temple, Adiyaman Kottam, Thenkaraikottai, Subramaniya Siva Memorial, Sir Thomas Munro Pillar. Hogenakkal is situated at the borders of Karnataka at 46 km from Dharmapuri. In Hogenakkal the river Cauvery enters into Tamil Nadu as a big river with gushing water presentably as a natural falls. Theerthamalai is an important sacred place in Harur taluk of Dharmapuri District. Shri Theerthagirishwarar Temple is located at the top of a hillock. Chola and Vijayanagara Kings donated liberally to this temple. A lot of devotees throng the temple during the Mahashivarathiri. The Department of Tourism has a Guest Houses for the benefit of the devotees. Theerthamalai is declared as an important tourist spot in Dharmapuri District.

By Air : The nearest airport from Dharmapuri is in Bangalore, one hundred and fifteen kilometers away. Domestic and international flights will be available from here.
By Train : Dharmapuri has a railway station that is very well connected. There are frequent trains to the cities of New Delhi, Tuticorin, Kannur, Coimbatore, and Mysore. Trains are a faster option, and they are quite cheaper than buses. Train fares will range around Rs 150 to 900, depending on the distance covered and the class of travel availed.
By Bus : Buses play to Dharmapuri from all major cities that are nearby including frequent buses from Bangalore and Chennai. Both semi deluxe buses and deluxe buses are available to the town of Dharmapuri, and air conditioned and non air conditioned buses are also available. Bus fares will range around Rs 100 to 300 for the basic mode of travel. Frequent buses are also available from the major bus stand in Salem, and these buses can also be availed.
