It’s the seat of the Regional County Municipality of Deux-Montagnes within the larger urban center region.
The name “Deux-Montagnes” (French for “Two Mountains”) dates to 1674 once it absolutely was given to the lake bordering on the municipality, and to the seigniory that stood north of the lake. Originally based because the Village Municipality of Saint-Eustache-sur-le-Lac in 1921, it became a town in 1958, and altered its name to Deux-Montagnes in 1963.
