Dawson Creek could be a little town in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. The municipality of twenty.66 sq. Kilometres (7.98 sq mi) had a population of eleven,529 in 2009. Dawson Creek derives its name from the creek of constant name that runs through the community. The creek was named when George Mercer Dawson by a member of his land survey team after they more established the realm in August 1879.
Once atiny low farming community, Dawson Creek became a regional centre once the western terminus of the Northern Canadian province Railways was extended there in 1932. The community grew quickly in 1942 because the U. S. Army used the rail terminus as a transportation purpose throughout construction of the Alaska main road. Within the Fifties, town was connected to the inside of British Columbia via a main road and railway through the range of mountains. Since the Nineteen Sixties, growth has slowed.
Dawson Creek is found within the dry and windy grassland land of the Peace watercourse Country. Because the seat of the Peace watercourse Regional District and a service centre for the agricultural areas south of the Peace watercourse, town has been known as the “Capital of the Peace”. It’s conjointly called the “Mile zero City”, pertaining to its location at the southern finish of the Alaska main road.
The community is home to a Tier II Junior A hockey team named the Dawson Creek Rage, still as a heritage interpretation village, Associate in Nursing picture gallery, and a repository. Annual events embody a fall truthful and a spring rodeo.
