Dar es Salaam meaning “Heaven of Peace” was founded in the year 1962 by the Sultan of Zanzibar, Seyyid Majid. The city is blessed with attractions such as scenic harbor, pristine beaches, historical buildings and museums. Wildlife parks along with the World famous Askari Monument are some of the major highlights of Dar es Salaam. The rich culture of the city depicts a fine blend of South Asian, African and Muslim influences. The city also houses numerous religion sites off which the Azania Front Lutheran Church is the most prominent one.
The city’s Botanical Garden is amongst the best and renowned for its natural beauty. The numerous species of plants including some rare ones scattered around the garden attracts the attention of visitors. Karimjee Hall is a must visit while on a tour to Dar es Salaam. Besides this, other major tourist places of interest in Dar es Salaam include Makumbusho Village Museum, National Museum, State House, Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks.
