HistoryEdit

Early known history of Cuttack revolves round the mighty kings of Keshari dynasty. It was Nrupa Keshari of this dynasty established the city as a military cantonment, which gave Cuttack its present outlook. After their rule of several years the city had witnessed the rise and fall of so many kingdoms and in 1750, it came under the Maratha rule, which transformed the city as a major business centre. Later the British acquires control of Cuttack in the year 1803 under whom the city has gained historical development as the capital of Orissa till the time of Indian Independence.A veteran city at the alluring convergence of Mahanadi and Kathjuri Rivers, Cuttack in the Indian state of Orissa boast of a magnificient history. The second largest city in Orissa is popularly called as the cultural capital of the state and is regarded as the twin city of Bhubaneswar. The city covers an area of around 3932 square kilometer and is the administrative headquarter of the territory. This renowned city has been bestowed with so many sobriquets like Millennium City, Commercial capital and so on.

By Air : The nearest airport to Cuttack is the Biju Patnaik Airport of Bhubaneswar, which is about 25 km away from the heart of the city. This airport is well connected to the major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. The taxi fare to the airport from the city is around Rs 300.

By Train : Cuttack railway station lies on the Chennai-Kolkata line. Trains from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bharipada, Bhagalpur, Bhubhaneshwar, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Haridwar, Jodhpur, Patna, Puri, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, etc. are connected to Cuttack. Auto-rickshaws and buses are easily available from the railway station to reach any part of the city.

By BUS : State owned public transport buses operate from Bhubaneswar (25 km) and Puri (90 km) to Cuttack. The tariff per seat is about Rs 50 to Bhubaneswar and Rs 200 to Puri. Private luxury buses are also available from Cuttack to nearby cities.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
