The city is called when northern born, Southern Cavalry officer, and Houston faller patriarch Conroe. Conroe based a sawmill there in 1881. The town originally gained in wealth owing to the lumber and oil industries. Originally named “Conroe’s Switch”, the realm saw Associate in Nursing flow of residents within the late nineteenth century owing to the lumber demands on the piney wood forest of the realm. Conroe could be a residential area town forty miles north of Houston within the gulf coastal plains/piney woods region of southeast TX. It’s the seat of MontgomeryCounty and falls inside the HoustonSugar LandBaytown metropolitan space. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the town population was thirty six,811 (though a 2009 estimate placed the population at fifty three,000.).
