An important port city on the Atlantic Ocean, Conakry, the capital and the largest city in Guinea serves as the economic, financial and cultural center in the region. Originally located on the Tombo Island, Conakry has now widely spread into neighboring areas of the Kaloum peninsula. Home to over 2 million people, the best way to get here is to take a one hour flight from Dakar in Senegal. The local economy revolves around the modern port which facilitates handling and storing of cargo largely consisting of bulk shipments of alumina and bananas.
Some of the favorite tourist attractions near Conakry include the Soumba Waterfalls, the Guinea National Museum, the Atoll Island, a Botanical Garden and several sandy beaches found within these regions. Featuring a good tropical monsoon which largely appreciated by the visitors, Conakry is a charming business-oriented Atlantic port-town displaying a fair amount of entertainment and nightlife.
