Well known for its elegant beaches, underwater fishing and spectacular mountain scenery, the island nation of Comoros is located off the coast of East Africa within the Indian Ocean. Basically consisting of four islands in the volcanic Comoros archipelago, this country has a history marked with several coups ever since it gained independence from France in 1975. African-Arab in origin, Sunni Islam is the dominant region practiced by less than a million people who belong to this region. This sixth smallest African nation has a very weak tourism infrastructure in spite of a great potential.

An insecure political climate and upheavals over the last three decades have taken a toll on Comoros which otherwise is good enough to compete with regional rivals like Reunion, Mauritius and Seychelles. While most of the investments in the hospitality industry in Comoros has, come from South Africa a large majority of the tourists are mainly made up of wealthy Americans and Europeans.
