The Cochrane Theatre is a receiving and producing theatre that aims to present all aspects of the performing arts within a proscenium arch. The theatre is situated in Holborn, London.
The theatre opened in 1964 and was named after its founder, Jeannetta Cochrane, who was a theatre practitioner specialising in costume and scenery design. She taught at the former Central School of Art and Design, presently known as The Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and through her persistence persuaded the London County Council to build a theatre attached to the school. The Cochrane Theatre is now owned by the University of the Arts London. It is used for productions and presentations by students on various courses.
The theatre has a traditional proscenium arch and fly tower consisting of 41 counterweight flying bars, orchestra pit and a fully functioning paint frame (a rarity in London theatres).
