The Cochrane–Africatown North American countryA Bridge could be a cable-stayed bridge carrying inject North American country ninety and Truck Route US ninety eight across the river from the dry land to Blakeley Island in Mobile, Alabama. It had been named for the Cochrane Bridge, that it replaced, and for the previous community of Africatown, that once stood on the western approach to the bridge. Volkert & Associates, Inc. Style for the bridge earned it the Outstanding Engineering action within the U.S.A. Award from the National Society of skilled Engineers and therefore the Award of Excellence in road style from the Federal road Administration, each in 1992. It’s the sole cable-stayed bridge within the state of Alabama. The bridge was broken on August twenty nine, 2005 once a thirteen,000 pound oil platform, the PSS Chemul, poor free from drydock and was compact below the bridge by cyclone Katrina. Amazingly the bridge remained in commission and continuing to hold 2 lanes of traffic when the storm.
