Coatzacoalcos may be a major port town within the southern a part of the Mexican state of city, on the Coatzacoalcos watercourse. Coatzacoalcos comes from AN native acceptation “Site of the Snake” or “Where the snake hides”. The town is the municipal seat of the municipality of identical name. Coatzacoalcos lies inside the Olmec region. Excavations in 2008 for a tunnel beneath the Coatzacoalcos watercourse indicate a considerable pre-Hispanic population. By the time of the Spanish arrival the world was underneath Mayan influence. In 1522, Hernán Cortés ordered Gonzalo Delaware Sandoval to fund a settlement close to Guazacualco. Sandoval named it Villa del Espíritu Santo.
