The Church Of The Sacred Hearts of Mary and Word was a former Roman Catholic parish church, primarily serving Italian Americans, that was dismantled. The church was initial placed on President Street off of Van strength Street then on Degraw and Hicks Streets, Brooklyn Heights, the big apple town. The Catholic Mission of the Italian Colony of town of Brooklyn was established in 1882 by Fr. Joseph Fransioli (sometimes spelled Francioli) in St. Peter’s Church (corner of Warren and Hicks Streets). It had been the primary parish established specifically for Italian immigrants on Long Island.
The church was opened in could 1885 on President Street off of Van strength Street however by 1900 a brand new structure was required. Mother Cabrini came to the parish throughout now and in 1892 together with her sisters established a college for Italian migrant kids within the parish. This was underneath the direction of her order. This college, St. Charles’ college, was opened inside associate adaptively reused former Moravian church on Van strength Street purchased by Bishop McDonnell of the jurisdiction of Brooklyn. Once the 1906 completion of the new church, Fr. Vogel unbroken the church on President Street because the Chapel of St. Charles, apparently spinoff of Mother Cabrini’s college. Another Church of the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Word (New royal line City) served Italian-Americans in Kipps Bay, Manhattan.
Father Vogel completed a brand new church in 1906 on Degraw and Hicks Streets, keeping the previous church because the Chapel of Saint Charles within the same parish. The new church and encompassing buildings were cleared by Henry M. Robert Moses for the Brooklyn-Queens pike. The ultimate mass was celebrated on the morning of December seven, 1941. The congregation integrated with the near Church of Saint Sir Leslie Stephen.
