Presently, the largest city on the eastern coast of South Island in New Zealand, Christchurch was originally founded in 1850 by English settlers. Also known as the ‘Garden City’, visitors are normally struck by the large number of trees growing like forest lands, all around Christchurch suburbs. Located within a land of plains and peaks, Christchurch offers a whole lot of touristic activities like golfing, skiing, bungee jumping, mountain biking, white-water rafting, wind surfing and whale watching. Even after the February, 2011 earthquake which hit Christchurch this city is still extremely beautiful where you can cycle alongside the river.
Featuring a dry, temperate oceanic climate with snowfall once or twice a year, Christchurch witnesses clear skies and a frosty calm environment on cold winter nights. Served by the Christchurch International Airport which provides several scheduled flights from all around New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Singapore including McMurdo Station in Antarctica, Christchurch is also approachable by bus, train and boat from most areas of South Island.
