Chowchilla could be a town in Madera County, California, u. S.. Chowchilla is found fifteen miles (24 km) northwest of Madera, at AN elevation of 240 feet (73 m). It’s a principal town of the MaderaChowchilla Metropolitan applied mathematics space. The population was eighteen,720 at the 2010 census, up from 11,127 at the 2000 census. The town is that the location of 2 Calif. Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation women’s facilities, the Central Calif. Women’s Facility and vale prison house for girls. The name “Chowchilla” comes from the Native yankee tribe of Chauchila (the writing system is inconsistent in reference guides) Yokut Indians that once lived within the space. The name itself obviously interprets as “Murderers” and is seemingly a respect to the warlike nature of the Chauchila tribe. The Chauchila Indians were unwittingly answerable for the primary white men “discovering” falls vale, that occurred once the Chauchila Indians were being pursued by a band of whites. References to the Indian tribe still teem in Chowchilla, and therefore the town’s highschool still retains the nickname of “Redskins” as their native being.
