Children’s depository & Theatre of Maine is found within the Arts District of downtown Portland, Maine and options a good sort of interactive exhibits and activities for kids and families. Children’s depository & Theatre of Maine exists to inspire discovery and imagination through exploration and play. The depository & Theatre is an important resource for families and educators, serving to to make a broad community dedicated to our children’s development and learning.
The Children’s depository of Maine was based by the Junior League of Portland in 1976, gap in only a number of rooms in Fort Williams park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. In 1980 the depository moved to a Victorian home on Stevens Avenue in Portland. Once quite a decade of triple-crown exhibits and programs, the depository all over again required a replacement area to accommodate growing interest. In 1991 a capital campaign was launched, and 2 years later the depository opened to the general public in a very grand new home.
The former Chamber of Commerce building on Free Street in downtown Portland. The 15,000-square-foot (1,400 m2) building has since been home to dozens of large-scale interactive exhibits, each permanent and rotating. In 2001, once careful assessment of community wants, the depository selected to direct programming and exhibits toward kids half dozen months to ten years mature, and chosen 3 areas of focus: science education, time of life education and philosophical system education. In 2002, the depository was hierarchical the #14 children’s depository within the country by kid (magazine).
