Scattered on the slopes of three hills, these sites are a little difficult to climb hence concluded as sacred by the researchers. Considered as one of the most unique places in Peru, Chichictara features over 1,200 designs and the mystery behind which still needs to be deciphered.
Chichictara consists of 150 rock-carved petroglyphs which were created during the Paracas Period (800-200 BC), Chichictara is situated in the north valley of Nazca in the northern section of Palpa. Spread over 3 kilometers these petroglyphs are divided into three sections. Located on the right bank of the Palpa River, these two thousand year old enigmatic figures engraved on volcanic stones depict the artistic, cultural and religious beliefs of the ancient inhabitants of Palpa.
