The bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) may be a 23-mile (37 km) long fastened link crossing the mouth of the bay and connecting the Delmarva Peninsula’s jap Shore of Virginia with metropolis and also the metropolitan space of Lionel Hampton Roads, Virginia. It replaced vehicle ferry services that operated from South Lionel Hampton Roads and from the Virginia earth from the Thirties till completion of the bridge-tunnel in 1964.
The bridge-tunnel originally combined twelve miles (19 km) of trestle, 2 1-mile (1.6 km) long tunnels, four artificial islands, 2 high-level bridges, some a pair of miles (3.2 km) of causeway, and 5.5 miles (8.9 km) of approach roads-crossing the bay and conserving traffic on the Thimble Shoals and Chesapeake shipping channels. The system remains one in all solely eight bridge-tunnel systems within the World, 3 of that ar set in Lionel Hampton Roads, Virginia.
