Chendamangalam Synagogue has a singular geography of three rivers, seven inlets, hillocks and vast expanses of green plains. A church, a temple, a mosque and the remains of a Jewish synagogue – all lying in close proximity is an ideal example of the ancient Indian tradition of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence. At Chendamangalam, apart from these historic evidences, nature also unveils her rare combination. This land was once the abode of the Paliath Achans, the prime ministers of the Maharajas of Kochi. Their residence, the Paliam Palace represents the architectural splendour of Kerala. The Palace houses a collection of historic documents and relics. The hillocks at Kottayi Kovilakom present an unusual view of the church, temple, mosque and the synagogue.
HistoryEdit
Chendamangalam was part of Kanayanur taluk, Cochin State. The panchayat was formed in 1914. Water surrounded in three directions, it is a traditional culture centre. Keralas first and last most ancient christain kingdom villarvattom was at arankavu. The church in the name of Marsleva was established in 1075. The decision for sunnhedos was decided at here. CLC institution was also formed at this church.Paliyam satyagraha resulted in the temple entry proclamation in cochin state. Barter system is practiced here now also called mattachantha. A.D.1663 to 1809 Prime Ministers of Cochin Paliath achans traditionally housed at Chendamangalam. At Chendamangalam, do check out the ancient Chendamangalam Fort which is one of the oldest forts in India. The 450 years old fort is abode to some historical documents, artifacts and relics which have now been kept for public display. Adjacent to this seminary is an old Syrian Catholic Church, built in the year 1201. The famous Hindu temple, Sree Venugopala Krishna Swami Dewasthan, was established at Chendamangalam in 1900 AD. Earlier, this temple was known as Jayantha Mangalam.

BUS : Kochi is well connected with the rest of the country. The national highways can bring you to Kochi from any part of the country. The city is an important place in the North-South Corridor. Air : Nearest airport: Cochin International Airport, about 20 km north of Ernakulam town towards the north.
Others : Autorickshaw : This is a cheap method of transport between attractions. You can find an auto stand at almost every bus stop, and at important places near junctions and residential areas. Make sure you agree on a fare with the driver before the journey. The govt fixed rates starts at Rs 10 for the first 1.25 km and Rs 6 per km thereafter with a premium of 15% at night (7PM-6AM).

- Kochi is infamous for mosquitoes, due to presence of large water bodies across the city. Make sure any room you book, has mosquito repellents or at least a mosquito net. Its always better to have any anti-mosquito creams or spice oil extracts like lemongrass oil to ward off mosquito bites.
- Public smoking bans are strictly enforced in the city more so than in other regions. The High Court of Kerala has decreed a public smoking ban across the state. Smoking on the roadside, in shopping complexes, restaurants, and parks is illegal and police can charge Rs 500-1,000 for breaches.
