Chaturshringi Temple in Pune is located on the slopes of a mountain on Senapati Bapat Road, in the northwest part of the city. It is a popular destination for sightseeing in Pune. The deity of Goddess Chaturshringi is widely considered the reigning deity of Pune and is worshipped by hundreds of devotees. The word ‘chatuh’ in Sanskrit denotes number four. Shrung in Sanskrit means the peaks of the mountain. Chatushrungi is the name of a mountain with four peaks. The temple is the holy shrine of goddess Chatushrungi Mata who is considered to be the protector of the mountain. Ambareshwari, Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati are some of the other names of Goddess Chatushrungi. The Goddess is also known by various other names including Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, and Ambareshwari. On a scenic natural beauty of the rising mountain slopes, the temple stands ninety feet high, a symbol of power and faith.

This magnificent structure of the building was constructed in the era of Shivaji, the Maratha warrior and king. The Chaturshringi Temple in Pune is looked after and maintained by the Chaturshringi Devasthan Trustees with full dedication. An annual Navaratri fair is held here to celebrate the event of the mother’s celebrations.

Safety / WarningEdit

  • While traveling from Pune to Mumbai beware of touts who induce you into cheaper travel. Rather take the Asiad buses from the regular stand at the Pune station or the crowded luxury buses which are safer options.
  • The auto rickshaw drivers can overcharge so ask them for meter readings and follow the rules of the meter while making payments. The city is heavily polluted in crowded junctions so avoid traveling in rush hours.
  • Do not trust strangers while traveling and avoid traveling out late at night in lonely areas, though Pune is relatively a safe city, and the crime rate is low.
