Chandrabhaga Beach is a lovely and quiet place, deriving its name from the ‘Chandrabhaga sea’. Rated as one of the finest beaches, it has a long stretch of clean sand and cool blue sea, creating rapids in the rolling waves. Adorned with lovely serenity, watching the golden sun rising above the blue waters over a clear sky is truly a once in a life time experience. Earlier the river Chandrabhaga joined the sea here, but now only the confluence remains to be seen. According to a legend, the daughter of a sage, Chandrabhaga killed herself by drowning in the river to protect her chastity from Surya, the Sun God. Lord Surya blessed the river with medicinal properties, in repentance, and named it as ‘Chandrabhaga’. Hence it is believed that a dip in River Chandrabhaga can cure leprosy. Pilgrims in large number take holy dip in this confluence on the Magha Saptami day, which falls in February-March every year. Apart from this, the beach also has a functioning light house, rendering it an old world charm.

Bus : Konark is connected to other cities in Orissa State Public Transport buses. Private Volvo bus services are available from Bhubaneshwar and Puri to Konark. Public buses charge about Rs 1.50 and private buses charges about Rs 3 per km travel.

Train : Puri, which is at distance of 31 km is the nearest railway station to Konark. Puri is connected to all major cities in India. Pre-paid taxi from Puri railway station to Konark cost about Rs 600.

Air : The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar, which is at a distance of 64 km away from Konark. The taxi cab charges about Rs 1,400 to cover the distance from Konark to Bhubaneshwar.
