Chandel is a district that is situated in the state of Manipur and it came in existence in the year 1974. The Chandel district is situated in the border regions of the country and it is located close to Myanmar. The place is known for the variety of tribes that live here. The region is home to around 20 different tribes and one can see many different cultures in the place. Each tribe is unique and they follow different traditions. Some of the different tribes in the region are the Anal, Chothe, Kukis, Mayon, Thadou, Paite, Maring and Lamkang. The main tourist site in the area is Tengnoupal and this is the highest point of the road from India to Myanmar. One can get an outstanding view from here and the entire valley of the state of Manipur can be seen from this point. This is a good place to check out and is situated at a distance of 20 kilometers from Chandel. One can also visit the town of Moreh that is located 70 kilometers from Chandel. This is the gateway to the country of Myanmar and one can see a curious mix of Indo Myanmar culture here. The climatic conditions of the Chandel district are similar to the climactic conditions of the rest of the state and the conditions can be classified as a tropical monsoon type.

By Air : There is no airport in Chandel. Tulihal Airport that is present outside the city of Imphal. One can travel to the airport from many parts of the country and there are flights from smaller cities as well. Frequent flights are available from cities such as Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. It is also connected to places such as Silchar.

By Train : The state does not have a major railway station of its own and one has to travel to the Dimapur station located in Nagaland and take a taxi from here. The station at Nagaland is connected to the city of Kolkata and second class berths cost around Rs 400.

By BUS : Local buses are available for Chandel from all the small as well big cities located nearby.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
