The Chamarajeshwara temple was built in A.D. 1826 by Mummadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar in the memory of his father Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar. The inscription carved on a huge slab standing infront of the Janana Mantap near Chamarajeshwara temple gives the authentic information about the birth place of Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar. The temple acquired prominence and fame during the period of Mummadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar of Mysore Dynasty. The more than 70 feet height five storey Rajagopuram with five glittering brass “Kalasha ” facing east is a wonderful specimen of the south Indian style of Hoysala architecture. It is dedicated to Lord Chamarajeshwara. There is a Shiva Linga inside the temple, which was originally constructed and brought from Sringeri. It was built with the blessings of Adi Shankaracharya who was the founder of Advaita Siddhanta. The temple is famous for its huge enclosure with golden pinnacles and other important shrines. The stage witnesses the Cultural Utsav during the special occasions.
