Birla Museum, preserves the evidences and artefacts dating right back to the prehistoric period; whilst, providing its visitors a glimpse of the social culture of the primitive men. Other exhibits at the museum include tools and equipments that were used by primitive men during the Palaeolithic and Neolithic ages.Tourists are lured towards the scale model of Bhimbetka rock shelter exhibited in the museum, with ancient wall paintings of the Stone Age. Archaeologists can also find interest in the displays of stone sculptures, from the 7th to the 13th century, collected from the various archaeological sites. Coins, manuscripts and terracotta objects dating back to the period between 2nd century BC and 6th century AD are other exhibits at this museum.

Buses are the cheapest mode of travel in Indore, and tourists can opt for such bus travel in case they’re aware of the location of their particular destination. Vagamon is a holiday retreat and picnic spot, about two hours drive from Pala in Kottayam district. It is a mountainous place with many hills, meadows and velvet lawns. Forest plantations and tea gardens dot the landscape. The Forest Department maintains a pine plantation at Kolahalamedu near Vagamon which attracts many visitors. You can walk down the road through the pine plantation or climb the hill for a splendid view of the valleys. Kolahalamedu is one of the highest spots in the area and,is renowned for its annual paragliding. Tea garden There are three mountains at Vagamon– Thangalmala, Kurisumala and Muruganmala. Thangalmala is sacred to Muslims. It houses the dargah of Sheikh Fariduddin, a Sufi saint from Afghanistan who lived and died there eight centuries ago. Muruganmala has a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. Many Hindus visit the temple for worship. Kurisumala, meaning mountain of the cross, is a pilgrim centre for Christians. Many gather there during the Easter week to follow the way of the cross. Sculptures dot the way. At the top of the Kurisumala is a shrine with sculptures of Jesus Christ near it. At the foot of the Kurisumala hill is the Kurisumala ashramam which was established in 1958. The inmates practice a mix of Christian monasticism and Indian tradition of sanyas. The District Tourism Promotion Council, Idukki, maintains a tourist centre promoted by the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, at Vagamon. Taxi : Local taxis are also available, though they are considerably more expensive than autorickshaws. There are taxi stands at the District Collectorate, and at the District Hospital.

Bus : There are bus services operating from cities like Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Chennai, Bangalore, Mangalore, Coimbatore to Kottayam. Kottayam has a comprehensive local bus system which is inexpensive. Be warned, however, buses can become extremely crowded during rush hour.

Train : Kottayam has a number of long distance trains coming through. The town is linked to most major cities in India by trains, categorized as being either express or non-express. Short-haul trains also pass through Kottayam, connecting it to most cities and towns in Kerala.

Air : The Nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, 90 km to the north.

Others : Autorickshaw – This is another inexpensive way of getting between places in town, and is recommended if you’re weary of travelling by a crowded bus.
