HistoryEdit

Banswara is a city in Banswara District in south Rajasthan in India. The princely state of Banswara was founded by Maharawal Jagmal Singh. It is named for the “bans” or bamboo forests in the area.Banswara (literally “the bamboo country”), was a Rajput feudatory state in Rajputana during British India. It borders Gujarat and is bounded on the north by the native states of Dungarpur and Udaipur or Mewar; on the northeast and east by Partabgarh; on the south by the dominions of Holkar and the state of Jabua; and on the west by the state of Rewa Kantha.Banswara district forms eastern part of the region known as Vagad or Vagwar. The district was formerly a princely state ruled by the Maharavals. It is said that a Bhil ruler Bansia or Wasna, ruled over it and Banswara was named after his name. Bansia was defeated and killed by Jagmal Singh who became the first Maharaval of the princely state. It is named so because of the bamboo (Hindi: बांस) which were found in abundance in the forests.

HistoryEdit

Allahabad, the modern name of ‘Prayag’ has links to various ancient civilizations like the Iron Age. While most of the mythological beliefs associate the city with the Puranas and the Rigveda, the city also boasts of being an integral part of the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana. Several dynasties are known to have ruled this city. According to the memoirs of Huien Tsang, the popular Chinese traveller, Allahabad was the reign of king Harshavardhan during 607 to 647 AD. In the year 1193 Muhammag Ghori, conquest the reigns of Allahabad and brought it under the Delhi Sultanate empire. The Mughals took complete control over Allahabad in 1526 and it was during the reign of Akbar that the Fort of Akbar was built. After the death of King Akbar, the city was ruled by King Jehangir. Many Maratha excursions were also made at Allahabd. However, the city came under the British flag in 1765, after the blood-spattering battle between the British and the combined forces of Nawab of Awadh and Mughal Emperor Shah Alam. Allahabad played an active role during the mutiny of 1857. It was during this time that Allahabad was made the capital of the North West province of the British and remained so for the next 20 years. Allahabd has been an important seat of learning since times immemorial. Various legends like Subhadra Kumari and Harivansh Rai Bachchan have been born here. In the 19th century, Allahabad was referred as the ‘Oxford of the East’.

HistoryEdit

Bhopal, the capital city of madhya pradesh combines scenic beauty, historicity and modern urban planning. It is situated on the site of an 11th – century city, Bhojapal, founded by raja Bhoja. Bhopal today presents a multi-faceted profile; the old city with its teeming market places and fine old mosques and palaces still bear the aristocratic imprint of its former rulers. Equally impressive is the new city with its verdant, exquisitely iaid out parks and gardens, broad avenues and steamlined moden edifices. The lay out of the existing city was done by Afghan soldier Dost Mohamammad (AD 1708-1740). Fleeing from Delhi in the chaotic period that followed Aurangzeb’s death, dost Mohammad met the gond queen kamlapati, who sought his aid after the murder of her consort.A charming legend relates how the queen would recline in alotus barge that,on moonlit nights, would drift across the lake. The two lakes of bhopal still dominate the city, and are indded its nucleus.

HistoryEdit

History of Almora can be traced back to ancient times of Mahabharata. However, the earliest historical account of the place is provided by a Chinese pilgrim of seventh century. The pilgrim wrote in great detail about a kingdom called ‘Brahmaputra’. A kingdom was first established in this area by the Katyuri dynasty. The Katyuri dynasty reigned from Dwarahat in katurya Valley. During those times, there was a small settlement in this are, not much of any political significance.King Baichaldeo of the Katyuri dynasty, who reined in the region where present day Almora is located, donated major part of this land to a Gujarati Brahmin by name Sri Chand Tiwari. In later times, during rule of Chand dynasty, Almora was founded around 1560 by Kalyanchand at this place which he called ‘Alam Nagar’. It was also called ‘Rajpur’.Interestingly, the mountain on which Almora is located is described in a famous Hindu epic – Manaskhand. It reads thus:Kaushiki Shalmali Madhyey Punyah Kashaya Parwatah Tasy Paschim Bhagam Kshetra Vishnyo Pratishthtam. The name ‘Rajpur’ finds mention on numerous copper plates found in this area. An important reason for the Chand rulers to establish a settlement here was a number of natural spring water sources that this place harbors. Later, they even transferred there capital here.
