HistoryEdit

Delhi city has a great history of centuries that encompass the bravery and valor of the legendary Pandavas and the might and wisdom of the Mauryans kings. A briefing of Delhi’s history would remain incomplete if there is no rendering about the great rule of Prithviraj Chauhan. As the last ruler of Hindu empire, this man helped a lot to mould Delhi in to a vibrant and sprawling city. After him, his kingdom was the strong hold of various dynasties like the Slaves and the Tughlaques. Later the Mughals coloured it with their great love and affection for art and literature. After the first war of Indian Independence, this historic city began to play a major role in the hands of the enduring British people. It was in 1911, Delhi had been officially recognized as the capital city of British India. This sprawling city has witnessed the rise and fall of so many strong holds of power. Starting from the days of the epic period to the 21st century, Delhi played a significant role in the entire history of the nation. Neatly compartmentalised into two, the Old Delhi and the New Delhi, this city exhibits unique features. Bestowed with a splendorous history, Old Delhi portrays its Mughal era with its all glory. The tapered lanes of Chandni Chowk, the Jama Masjid, Red Fort reveals the patronage and compassion of the Mughal rulers towards art and architecture.

HistoryEdit

Goa traces its origin right upto the epic of Mahabharata, where the land of Goa has been repeatedly referred as Goparashtra (country of cowherds). The formation of Goa has another amazing legend attached to it wherein it is believed that Lord Parshuram (Sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu) shot seven different arrows in various directions marking the limits of the oceans (Neptune). The sea withdrew from the places wherever the arrows fell. A village called Banauli / Banaulim (arrow village) is often referred to as the place where the arrow struck and surprisingly even the Indologist and geologists marvel at the presence of burned sea shells and marine fossils which date back to 10,000 BC. Later Goa saw glorious years under the Kadamba dynasty however; the fortunes of Goa continued to fluctuate until the Portuguese snatched the land from Adil Shah of Bijapur in 1510 AD. The Portuguese admiral Alfonse de Albuquerque realized the dream of Vasco da Gama of establishing a permanent base / colony in India. The Portuguese constructed many fortresses, churches, monuments and buildings in Goa and have left an indelible mark on the culture of Goa. The Portuguese rule continued even after independence of India as the Portuguese refused to hand over the state. The same was however, forcefully snatched from the Portuguese Garrison after a successful liberation action by the freedom fighters, Indian Navy and Indian Army. Goa was liberated and is now one of the states of independent India.

HistoryEdit

Chandigarh, one of the Union Territories of India is indebted to a Chandi temple and an adjoining fort for its name. The history of Chandigarh is really captivating. Chandi is a goddess of Hindus and Garh means fort. On the vicinity of today’s hustling and bustling city of Chandigarh, one could easily find this ancient temple. However, the city of Chandigarh has a primitive story to tell, a story that was born before the birth of the city. Chandigarh, as you will discover now, is located at the foothills of Shibalik range of Himalayas. The place was a large lake at the antediluvian ages. The fossils of marine creatures and amphibians prove this geological theory. The more fascinating, about 8000 years ago, when human civilization was in its infancy, Chandigarh as place used to be inhabited by the Harappans. Remember that Harappa is one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

Safety / WarningEdit

  • Beware of pickpockets as Adoor is a major tourist city in India.
  • Beware of fake items, especially the marble souvenirs. If you buy from roadside sellers, most likely the items are fake and made of chalk instead of marble. Better to buy from reputable shops even though you have to pay more.
